Much time has passed since our last update. We've just finished spring break here, and in our final stretch of the school year. Ella will be completing second grade, and Jack is finishing up preschool. It's been a busy year indeed.

Jack has really blossomed this year – and grew about a foot! He does gymnastics once and week, and has been initiated into team sports. He tried his hand (or foot) at soccer this fall and winter, and he and his friends are now playing Tball. He seems to have a good time with both, and we were fortunate that we have great team of families (complete with cool parents and big sisters), so his sport schedule has become a fun social time for us all. He's still very happy at home and enjoys building legos, playing cars, being outside, playing board games with Mom and doing

Ella seems so grown up I can hardly believe it. She's doing gymnastics twice a week and recently (in a post-Olympic fever) started ice skating lessons. She is still horse crazy, and enjoyed some time at horse camp over winter break, and is looking forward to another week there this summer. She really loves animals and is constantly trying to talk us into either horseback riding lessons and/or getting a family dog! (My good sense is working hard to resist!) At home she spends time reading, drawing, and playing with her brother. Her current obsession is to teach Jack to read, so there's a lot of school being played around here! She just got her own desk, which makes her room look very grown up indeed. Of course, at any given moment she'd rather be with her friends, so playdates with Kylie, Georgia, and Lily continue to take up much of her time.

Cliff is still working hard at HomeAway. He continues to do Cross Fit several mornings a week, which keeps him in shape to keep up with the kids during any free time. I'm still busy keeping the family afloat and working with Ella's Girl Scout troop. An autumn injury put the school year off to a rocky start for the whole family. I broke my wrist while roller skating with Ella, and we all quickly learned how inefficient a one-handed mommy is! Luckily, surgery and three months of physical and occupational therapy seem to have put things mostly back together! And no, there will not be any more roller skating in my foreseeable future.

Wow! We have just returned from a fabulous family vacation. Two full weeks away from the Austin oven. For some reason no one here is sympathetic when I tell them my only complaint regarding our trip to Seattle and Mt. Rainier National Park was that I was cold the whole time. Seriously, I kept shopping and shopping and layering and layering, but just could NOT warm up!

What a week we just had. One week playing in Florida was not nearly enough. We spend half our time at Walt Disney World and half at the beach visiting Great Grandmommy, and both were charming. I'm struggling with how to even describe our time at Disney, so maybe I'll start with the week's end. We stayed at the Tortuga Inn on Anna Maria Island. A wonderful beach get-away for anyone visiting Florida! We had booked a condo that was nearly as big as our home, anticipating long visits just hanging out with Evelyn and Sid – in our own space where the kids would be comfortable and not wreaking havoc in someone else's home. It worked out wonderfully. We had a large “lanai” (screened patio) that overlooked the bay, and we spent many hours there enjoying the palm trees, water, Gulf breezes, good conversation, card games, and of course, margaritas. We were doubly happy to have such a nice home base when Ella got sick the second day there and spent the majority of her time at the beach lazing on the sofa watching TV. (We took her to doc upon our return and have learned she has strep throat – poor thing.) Anyway, she was a trooper and still managed to have a good time. She absolutely adored her Great Grandmommy, and she and Jack looked forward to our daily visits with her. Our condo was just across the street from the Gulf beach, and so we logged some time there – collecting sea shells, chasing waves, playing in the sand, and watching sunsets. Jack especially took to the beach and, like Cliff and I, wished he had more time there. Ella is more of pool girl herself and would love to spend her life swimming, so we'd dose her up on ibuprofen and take a swim at the pool whenever her fever dropped. She was happy as a clam in those moments. The “town” itself (Bradenton Beach I believe) had a lot to offer and we wish we'd had more time to enjoy the local vibe. I have to say it's probably the first beach vacation where I've ever thought I had good food! Highlights were a wonderful French restaurant where we had crepes, quiche and delicious french onion soup, and a goody place that served frozen chocolate-covered key lime pie – absolutely out of this world yummy! So all in all we had a great time considering our time was too short and our sweet girl was under the weather.
